Our back gardens can be a tranquil space - a place where we go to wind down after a busy day or to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Adding the sound & sight of water can create a sense of calm and help with relaxation and stress. We all deserve some down time every now and again so why not add a water feature to your outdoor space to help you relax?

Types of Garden Water Features

When it comes to garden water features, the options are endless. From solar powered features, to contemporary designed fountains, bird baths & more, garden water features have become popular as they're a decorative outdoor furnishing that will not only complement your outdoor space but they can also add some much needed Zen to your garden, no matter it's size. Here are some examples of types of water features you can have in your garden.

Ponds

This garden water feature is one of the popular ones! Not only are they beautiful to look at but they can provide drinks for thirsty wildlife and can also become homes for fish, frogs, turtles and more. Ponds are also low maintenance so you won't have to worry about doing too much to keep them looking their best throughout the years. There are plenty of designs you could choose when it comes to ponds so you'll be able to decide based on what will suit your back garden best.

Waterfalls

If you're going to build a pond in your garden or already have one, you might want to add a waterfall to it as well. As well as adding to the aesthetics, the sound of the trickling water will sooth & calm any nervous or anxious energy.

From cascading, multi-step & pondless waterfalls, to rain curtains & waterwalls, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking which waterfall you want to build.

Streams

Surely you'll only find these in the forest or by your walking trail as you're getting your steps in? Not anymore! You can build a stream in your back garden either on it's own or as an extension to your pond. It'll take some hard work and dedication but once you've finished building your stream, you'll be the talk of the town (or at least the talk of you neighbours!).

Water Fountains

Another popular water feature to add to your back garden is a water fountain. These eye catching figures will be the focal point of your garden so you'll want to make sure you find the perfect spot for it. You'd preferably want your water fountain in the sunshine but away from trees so no branches or leaves fall into the fountain. You'll find an array of freestanding & wall mounted styles & designs that will perfectly blend in with any back garden.

Bird Baths

Not only are bird baths beautiful to look at, they are also great for animals & can be used all year round. These garden features help to keep birds cool & refreshed the warmer months or to give them a much needed drink in the colder months. If you choose to add a bird bath into your garden, be sure to keep it clean & regularly top it up with fresh water so you don't cause harm to any animals drinking from it.
