With Summer bowing out and Autumn on it's way, your gardening jobs are ready to change again to adapt to the upcoming cooler weather. Here are some gardening jobs you can get on with in September.
Taking care of your lawn is an around the year job if you want to keep it healthy and thriving.
During September, your lawn's growth will start to slow down. Before you give it a trim, make sure to raise the height of the lawnmower blades. Doing this is ideal for helping your lawn to photosynthesize and stay healthy during the autumn months. If you're in need of a lawnmower, whether it be to hire or to buy, you can check out our range here.
Autumn is here and with it comes falling leaves. Cleaning them up couldn't be easier. Whether you want to use a rake or a leaf blower, you'll be able to collect the leaves in no time at all. If you don't clear away leaves from your lawn, you risk it getting less light exposure which means the grass will soon turn yellow and no one wants that!
Whilst you're gathering those fallen leaves, why not put them in a bin to create your own compost. Not only is this a great way to recycle and reuse the leaves but your compost will be full of nutrients & it'll be able to retain moisture making it a good for mulch and keeping weeds away.
September is the perfect time to plant flowers such as daffodils, tulips & bluebells so that they can bloom in time for Winter & Spring. We have a wide range of gardening tools, available to buy, that you can be used by professionals or gardening enthusiasts to get those seeds sown in your plant pots and garden borders.
Over the Summer, you might have put up some protection in your greenhouse to keep your plants and flowers from getting damaged by the heat. As the temperatures start to get cooler in September, you can start to take down any shades that you've put up and remove and shading paints on the windows & doors so your flora can get enough sunlight in the darker months.
If you're lucky enough to have a pond in your back garden, you'll want to protect it all year round. In September, try adding a net to the top of your pond to stop leaves and other debris from falling in to the water. Not only will it help keep the water clean but you'll also keep animals and wildlife in your pond safe too.
There are more gardening jobs you could do in September like harvesting fruit and vegetables, more garden maintenance and looking after your house plants so feel free to edit this checklist and add more to it if you need to.
